Hill Country Sparkle: The Best Christmas Lights around Dripping Springs

Hill Country Sparkle: The Best Christmas Lights around Dripping Springs

The holidays are here, and there's no better way to get into the spirit than taking a drive or a stroll through a dazzling display of Christmas lights. Here is your essential guide to the most brilliant light displays, from massive, magical walk-through experiences to local neighborhood favorites.

Hill Country Holiday Heart: Johnson City Lights Spectacular

Johnson City is a must-see. It is widely considered the "Light Capital of the Hill Country" and transforms into a festive wonderland. The main attraction is the Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) Headquarters, which covers its extensive property with millions of lights. The spectacular display illuminates the historic Courthouse and the surrounding businesses on the square, making the entire downtown area walkable and vibrant. For 2025, the lights will run nightly from November 29, 2025, to January 4, 2026, turning on around 6:00 PM and staying on until midnight. Look for special features like lighted carriage and tractor rides on select dates. While the display is free to enjoy, they gratefully accept donations. These contributions enable them to not only continue this memorable tradition but also to provide valuable scholarships to local graduates, making your visit impact the community long after the holidays are over.

Riverside Radiance: Marble Falls Walkway of Lights

A true Hill Country treasure, the Walkway of Lights, presented by Austin Telco Federal Credit Union, is celebrating its 35th year in Marble Falls. This display features over 350 sculptures and more than 2 million lights illuminating the shoreline of Lake Marble Falls—the reflections on the water are truly enchanting! The Walkway of Lights is open every night, 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM, from November 21st to January 3rd. The entry fee is just $2 per person (cash or card accepted). If you have little ones, Santa will be taking Christmas wishes every Friday and Saturday from 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM until Christmas. If you're traveling, be sure to note that the Walkway may close due to rain if the grounds are unsafe, so always check the @VisitMarbleFalls Facebook and Instagram for closure announcements before driving out. Leashed dogs are welcome, and a concession stand will be on-site offering holiday treats.

Neighborhood Gems

You don't always have to drive far to find incredible decorations! Keep your eyes peeled for these two unique and highly decorated areas. The Maywalds are a local family who continue to uphold a wonderful annual tradition by putting up a spectacular home display that is well worth seeking out in the Dripping Springs area. Additionally, the Western Oaks neighborhood in Oak Hill takes decorating very seriously! The competition is fierce, and the creativity is truly amazing. Drive through the main part of the neighborhood by turning in on One Oak (off William Cannon) and exploring the side streets.

A Unique, Historical Experience: Burnet's Main Street Bethlehem

For a truly different kind of holiday event, plan a visit to Burnet for an immersive, historical recreation of the ancient city of Bethlehem. This is a non-traditional, moving experience where you can walk the streets of an ancient city, observe daily life, watch craftspeople, and follow the path to the stable to witness the Christmas story. This event usually takes place the first two weekends of December. For 2025, it is expected to run December 5–7 and December 12–14 from 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM, and it is free to attend.

A Magical Walk: The Trail of Lights in Wimberley

For a beautiful, immersive, and community-focused experience, head over to the EmilyAnn Theatre and Gardens in nearby Wimberley for their annual Trail of Lights. This is a special, walkable experience where you can stroll at your own pace through eight acres of lighted exhibits, each sponsored by a different local business or organization. For 2025, the trail is expected to run from November 29 through December 27, generally open 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM, with Friday and Saturday hours often extended. Concessions are available for hot chocolate, and Santa is typically in his workshop most nights. Parking is easy, generally available at the adjacent high school. While it is free to attend, donations are graciously accepted as this is the EmilyAnn Theatre’s largest annual fundraiser.

Whether you choose a competitive neighborhood drive-by or an immersive historical recreation, the Hill Country offers countless ways to celebrate the season. Grab your hot chocolate, fill up the gas tank, and make some unforgettable holiday memories!
