Can a Spicewood resident book dinner at Estella, now that Canyon Ranch opens its doors today? For now the answer is no. Community Impact reports that the 600-acre wellness resort at 600 Moonlight Bend begins welcoming guests today, Thursday, Oct. 22. Its signature restaurant comes from the chef behind Californios in San Francisco. The Austin American-Statesman reported that Estella "will not be open to the general public," with access limited to overnight resort guests and property homeowners.
That one line describes the whole resort. Canyon Ranch Austin was built as a closed loop, and some of the Hill Country culture it presents now sits inside it, starting with the music. Spicewood's open stages, its winery parties and its biggest public outdoor space are right where they were, and several of them have dates on the calendar over the next six weeks.
The Gate Is Part of the Design
The resort's own spa page is direct about it. Under the question of whether you can visit the spa without staying, the answer reads "Day passes are not currently offered at Canyon Ranch Austin. Spa access is available as part of an overnight resort stay." The spa is 40,000 square feet. The resort also has 141 hotel rooms and 134 residential units, and a stay includes meals at the on-site restaurants, the pool and fitness center, and daily activities.
Entry starts at an overnight rate. The Stay Your Way package is listed from $1,325 per person per night for single occupancy, or from $1,193 per person for double occupancy, before taxes. Texas Monthly notes that the rate covers meals and many activities, while spa treatments cost extra. The second way in is ownership. On-site homes start at $3.8 million, and Community Impact reports that homeowners get access to all resort facilities and programs through a homeowner membership.
The other food and drink spaces are described for guests as well. The resort's dining page lists Estella, open daily 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Clubhouse, and the Flying X Café, a fast-casual spot open 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. "for guests on the go." It also lists The Rendezvous, a Thursday-through-Sunday lounge beside the Ranch House porch, and Oak Valley, a private-dining setting in an oak grove that is booked through a group stay expert. The café's name comes from the land itself. Texas Monthly identifies the property as a former hunting ranch called the Flying X, with 1.5 miles of Lake Travis frontage.
The Resort Built Its Own Soundtrack
The music program shows most clearly how much local culture the resort keeps for its guests. Texas Monthly reported that Canyon Ranch brought British sound artist Justin Wiggan to the property this summer. He attached sensors to prickly pear and limestone shoreline and turned their signals into a 90-minute spa soundtrack titled The Living Hill.
The program goes further. According to the same Texas Monthly report, the resort hired singer-songwriter Sisi Berry as its "property troubadour." She will perform, teach guitar and lead songwriting workshops several times a month. Guests can order guitars, mandolins and harmonicas to their rooms through a partnership with Strait Music. A spa treatment called the Vinyl Revival pairs a massage with an album chosen with Waterloo Records, and the first record is Hues by local indie pop band Deer Fellow. The resort's daily schedule presents its classes and events as ways to "enrich your stay."
That's a lot of Austin and Hill Country music, all of it set up for people with a room key. The music in Spicewood that doesn't need a room key is on a different set of calendars.
Where Spicewood's Music Is Open to Anyone
Three venues carry most of Spicewood's public music from now through early December. Poodie's Hilltop Roadhouse, Iron Wolf Ranch & Distillery and Spicewood Vineyards each post their own schedules, and the Spicewood Arts series puts its larger ticketed concerts at the vineyard's event center.

|---|---|---|---|
| Fri., Oct. 23 | Poodie's Hilltop Roadhouse | Square Grooves | Tickets online |

| Sat., Oct. 31 | Poodie's Hilltop Roadhouse | Madam Radar Halloween Party and Costume Contest | Tickets online |

| Sun., Nov. 22 | Spicewood Vineyards | Fall Wine Club Pick Up Party | See venue |
| Fri., Dec. 4 | Spicewood Vineyards Event Center | Matt Wilson, Spicewood Arts holiday show | $60 general |
Halloween is the busiest day on the list. Iron Wolf is open noon to 8 p.m. that Saturday, with Brandon Alan playing free from 2 to 5 p.m. Spicewood Vineyards bills a free Halloween Day party "for all the kiddos and kids at heart," and Poodie's closes the night with Madam Radar and a costume contest.
Friday, Nov. 6 is the night you'll have to pick one. Spicewood Arts has Paul Overstreet & Friends at the vineyard event center, with doors at 6:30 p.m. and the show at 7:30 p.m. Only 70 reserved seats are listed at $125, and a pre-show artist reception from 6 to 6:30 p.m. is capped at 20 tickets for $50, including a glass of wine. Malford Milligan plays Poodie's the same night. That $125 reserved seat, the priciest public ticket in this lineup, comes to less than a tenth of Canyon Ranch's starting single-occupancy rate for one night.
The vineyard's Nov. 22 Fall Wine Club Pick Up Party lists three new wines to sample and take home, plus live music and light bites. Matt Wilson returns Dec. 4 for a Spicewood Arts holiday show, with doors at 6 p.m. and the performance at 7 p.m. These are live calendars and can change, so check each venue's page before you drive.
The Largest Open Door Is a County Park
Canyon Ranch covers more than 600 acres behind its gate. Spicewood's large public outdoor space is Milton Reimers Ranch Park, and this fall it has three things going on.
First, trail work. Travis County Parks says portions of the Granite Hiking Trail closed Oct. 14 for an improvement project expected to last roughly two weeks, so access should return around the end of October. The mountain bike trails are open, though the county notes they sometimes close after rain.
Second, river access. The Reimers Ranch Park page says the road to the beach is now open seven days a week for dropping off people and supplies, with no parking at beach level. The county expects to close that road on busy swimming weekends and holidays starting in late spring 2027, so the everyday drop-off is a fall and winter arrangement for now. Travis County is also under a burn ban. Wood fires, ground fires and charcoal grills aren't allowed, and only propane in above-ground, covered grills is permitted. Reimers takes no reservations and runs first come, first served.
Third, the park's next phase is open for public input. Travis County Parks is writing vision plans for Reimers Ranch Park and its newest park, RGK Ranch Park, which isn't open to the public yet. The online survey runs from Oct. 7 through Nov. 4, and the link is on the Reimers Ranch Park page. Of the dates in this post, this is the only one where Spicewood residents help decide what the next public place looks like.
Part of a Wider Pattern Across the Hill Country
Canyon Ranch Austin is the company's third location, and the Statesman reported that the company calls it one of the largest hospitality investments Central Texas will see this year. The build was a real undertaking. Texas Monthly reported that crews had to blast through unexpected dolomite rock to cut the resort's internal roads.
More resorts like it are coming. Texas Monthly lists Aman's planned Amansanu ranch-style resort, reported to be roughly 90 minutes northwest of Austin. It also lists a 71-room Auberge Resorts Collection hotel at the Mirasol Springs development on the Pedernales River near Hamilton Pool, and a Waldorf Astoria resort in Fredericksburg. Canyon Ranch arrived first. Between now and the Dec. 4 holiday show, the dates open to Spicewood residents are at Poodie's, Iron Wolf, Spicewood Vineyards and Reimers Ranch, plus a county survey that closes Nov. 4.
The arrival of resorts like Canyon Ranch is changing the Hill Country around your home, and The Lisa Little Team follows each of those changes up close. If you'd like to know what your Spicewood property is worth this fall, request a complimentary home valuation and we'll walk you through it.
